All of Hattie's sculptures are one-of-a-kind and completely hand-fabricated by the artist in her home studio in Unionville, Pennsylvania. She uses copper, sterling, and bronze sheet metal along with wire, brazing, and soldering techniques to join metals together. In order to make the replica plants, Hattie carefully studied each species and determined the best approach for recreating it in metal. Patinas and metal paints were used to add color.
Hattie was invited by The Delaware Museum of Natural History to create poisonous plants from Amy Stewart's best-selling book Wicked Plants. It took Hattie one year to make her Wicked Plant Jewelry Collection, which was on exhibit from June to September 2019 at the museum. Hattie was asked to recreate 16 plant replicas and make them into jewelry for the traveling museum tour in 2019. The taller sculptures were made for an exhibit at the 2021 Philadelphia Flower Show to which Hattie was invited to create Australian Orchids; her work was requested by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society affiliated with Longwood Gardens.
